OOTD : Sweater Skirts Pt. 3

Still time for some more sweater skirts! It's still really cold here. In fact I probably should have but on some nude tights with this outfit. Burrrrr!

Today, I layered 2 basic long sleeve tees from H&M. One in a burgundy wine color and the other in navy blue. I then put on this grey sweater skirt from H&M. I find that grey skirts are a real challenge to style. Is that just me? To keep my legs warm I put on some navy knee high socks I got in Italy. And since it's cold I threw on some soft brown lace up boots from Target.

For Accessories :

JewelMint Roma Bracelet

I picked up this lovely bracelet from JewelMint. It was on clearance for 9 dollars plus free shipping! What?! I think it looks absolutely stunning especially for those colder months because it's got that lovely antiqued look to it. It has a nice weight and it feels well made. The two jewel toned pieces slide into each other and then it latches at the top. The latch kept coming undone but it was an easy fix to tighten the opening with some needle nose pliers :] Love it!

Vibram Five Fingers : Women's TrekSport in Black/ Charcoal

Vibram Five Fingers

Women's TrekSport in Black / Charcoal

Meet my newest pair of shoes!

I know it's not your typical shoe and it might not be considered fashionable but I can't wait to wear these bad boys! As described on the Vibrams website these can be referred to as the 'barefoot shoes'. They look like feet and they fit like a glove. These retail for a 100 USD at vibramfivefingers.com. I received a black Friday coupon for 20% which I finally got around to using.

I'm a avid runner and I love to get my fitness on. But I have extremely flat feet to the point I have no arch and I have an extra bone in my foot that I will need to have surgery on- later in life. All that requires I wear prescription inserts and so on. Needless to say running all the time combined with my bad feet causes lots of bad knee, hip, and lower back pain. So, I made the investment.

From the research I've done through their site. Running 'barefoot' strengthens your foot and your arches.  Also it forces you to use forefoot striking instead of heel striking. Apparently with shoes you are more prone to striking with your heels while running which really jars the knees and creates joint pains.

I still have the tags on because sizing can be difficult. I honestly don't know how tight or loose they are suppose to be. Ive got two sizes and I'm currently waiting for my brother to come home next week and help me out (he owns multiple pairs).

I also decided to buy a pair of toe socks with my Vibrams. I know you can wear them without socks but I don't want them to get too dirty. I read you can also machine wash your Vibrams when they get stinky. Yay!

Once the brother helps me with the sizing, I'm going to start training in these asap! The site says you have to ease into it. I've been trying to forefoot strike in shoes for a while so we will see how sore my calves get. I feel a little strange going to the gym in these but maybe it will be an awesome conversation starter- haha!

In a month or so I'll come back with a full review. I want to test these out for a while. Indoor and outdoor. Maybe I will make a video of how the process went :]

What do you think of the Vibrams?

MAC Matte Eyeshadows in : Soft Brown, Swiss Chocolate, FIG. 1, Shadowy Lady, Nehru

MAC Matte and Matte2 Eyeshadows in :

Soft Brown, Swiss Chocolate, FIG. 1, Shadowy Lady, and Nehru

I have started the task of going through my entire collection of MAC shadows that I have accumulated over the years (excluding past MAC collections). I have decided to sort the shadows by finish. I hope this proves to be helpful!
Soft Brown

A warm light brown. Slightly orange-y which looks lovely with blue eyes. Matte. Fairly pigmented and build-able. Blends nicely. Smooth.

Swiss Chocolate

A very warm toned medium brown. Reddish undertones. Fairly pigmented and builds nicely. Blends well. Great color to deepen the crease or nice as a all-over lid color. Love this one!

FIG. 1

A warm toned medium purple shade. Pigmented and beautifully smooth. Texture is really nice. Ok blending wise. This is a Matte2 shade which has a slightly different formula. From the research I've done I believe this formula is slightly more milled and is suppose to have better color pay off. I don't notice a dramatic difference between the two.

 Shadowy Lady

A dark neutral purple shade. A little sheer but easy to build up. Can be a little patchy and difficult to blend.

It can look beautiful in the outer corner or as a liner. Despite its fall backs I use this shade quite a bit. Any suggestions for a better alternative?

Nehru

Cool toned black. Blue undertones. Pigmented and easy to build up. Since I'm pretty fair I usually only use a small amount. Fairly easy to blend out. Its a nice color if your looking for something a little more subtle than a true matte black. Great for a deep smokey eye or as a liner.

Overall Thoughts :

I really enjoy these colors and I use them throughout the week. I'm a big fan of matte shadows though I find some are more hard to work with than others. Pigmentation can be lacking but I find the matte shadows easy to build up which allows you more flexibility. Texture is smooth but not as creamy as other lines. I find Nehru and FIG. 1 to have the most pigmentation. The purple shadows here do tend to fade throughout the day. I like the effect but I do want to put that out there.  I probably use Swiss Chocolate the most out of this bunch.

OOTD : Sage Green Dress & Black Blazer

OOTD :

Sage Green Dress & Black Blazer

Today I went with a beautiful lacy sage green dress. I reminds me a little of Tinker Bells' dress. Since it was chilly out I threw on some basic leggings and a black blazer with hot pink lining. I wore my black leather lace up boots along with matching vintage inspired earrings and a black / brown school bag.

The green dress was purchsed at Promod. Basic black leggings, black blazer, and black/brown bag were all purchased at H&M. Boots and earrings were purchased in downtown Florence.

Perhaps the color palette and these basic pieces of clothing will give you some inspiration :]

MAC Lustre shadows in : Retro-Speck, Gleam, Mythology, Idol Eyes, Aquadisiac

MAC Lustre shadows in :

Retro-Speck, Gleam, Mythology, Idol Eyes, Aquadisiac

I have started the task of going through my entire collection of MAC shadows that I have accumulated over the years (excluding past MAC collections). I have decided to sort the shadows by finish. I hope this proves to be helpful!

Retro - Speck

Soft light shimmery golden shadow. I really enjoy this shade because it's not as harsh as some golds. A lot of golds I own lean more yellow and this has just the right amount. Applied dry it has almost zero pigmentation. Applied wet it's a really beautiful color with improved pigmentation. I only apply this wet. If you don't want the trouble I don't recommend this shade. I love this shade of gold enough to repurchase.

Gleam

A light warm peach color with silver shimmer. This too, applied dry, has very little pigmentation. Applied wet, it's a really beautiful lid color. This shade with MAC's expensive pink is an amazing combination. If you don't want the trouble I don't recommend this shade because you really have to work with it. I love this shade of peach enough to consider repurchasing.

Mythology

Beautiful orange-y copper color. Extremely shimmery. I usually apply this shade wet and it turns into a beautiful stand out color. Easy to blend. Pigmented. Really makes blue eyes pop.

Idol Eyes

A silvery lavender purple. Silver shimmer - a little on the chunky side. Applied dry this shade is sheer with some fall out. I apply this shade wet to get better color pay off. The consistency kind of kills it for me. I'm not in love with this shadow enough to repurchase.

Aquadisiac

A bright aqua blue with slight silver shimmer. Shimmer is not very visible on the lids like the previous shadows. A little on the sheer side but build-able. The build-ability of this shadow makes this bright color really easy to work with.

Natural lighting. All shadows applied dry then wet. In order from left to right : Retro-speck,  Gleam,  Mythology,  Idol Eyes, Aquadisiac.

Artificial lighting. All shadows applied dry then wet. In order from left to right : Retro-speck,  Gleam,  Mythology,  Idol Eyes, Aquadisiac.

Overall Thoughts :

Honestly, this is probably my least favorite formula. Pigmentation is really not up to par for the price. It is really sad because there are some beautiful shadows. I find the consistency to be more on the chunky, flaky, dry side which leads to some fall out. The majority I have to use wet to get a nice consistency and color pay off.

Each shadow retails for 15.00 USD. I purchased mine at the MAC counters in the mall or online at

maccosmentics.com.

Faux Fur Fingerless Gloves

Buurrrrr it is cold outside today! I'm hoping this weather doesn't linger so this will probably be my last colder weather post (we will save the leg warmers and all that good stuff for next time). As I mentioned in my previous post, one thing I love for cold weather is faux fur! So when I saw these little guys a few years back in the Italian and German markets - I had to grab a bunch!

I like to wear these on days that I need to use my hands and keep them warm at the same time. They come in handy! I've seen some really beautiful similar ones on etsy.com... maybe next year :]
